Our story

Built by hand, for growers

No venture capital, no growth team, no ad network. Just a small independent shop making the gardening companion we always wished existed.

How it came together

  1. The itch

We wanted one honest place to time plantings by the moon and remember what actually worked in our garden — without ads, logins, or someone selling the data back to us.

  2. The app

So we built it: a free, ad-free, private Android app with a live lunar calendar, a plant guide, and a journal that auto-tags every entry with its moon phase.

  3. The garden grew

Companion planting, soil pH, crop rotation, composting, foraging, and survival-nutrition guides followed — the tools a garden actually needs across a season, not just a pretty calendar.

  4. The website

This site opened the same thinking to the web: a Learn library, a community feed, a blog, and interactive tools you can use right in the browser — free, no account required to read.

  5. Where it’s heading

More power tools, cloud sync so your journal follows you from phone to web, and — down the road — an iPhone version. Built slowly, by hand, and kept honest.

Why we built it

Moon Phase Garden started with a simple frustration: every gardening app seemed to want something from you. Your email, your location, your attention, a subscription before you'd even planted a seed — and a wall of ads in between. We wanted the opposite. A tool that respects the person holding the phone, works even when the signal doesn't, and treats the oldest gardening wisdom — planting in rhythm with the moon — with both curiosity and honesty.

So we built it ourselves, one release at a time. It's the work of I am Geek, a small technology shop, made in the evenings and weekends between real gardens and real life.

What we believe

Where it's going

The app grows steadily: from moon-timed planting and a 94-plant guide, into foraging and nutrition, and toward a full "plan your garden" toolkit — companion planting, crop rotation, soil, and more. This website grows alongside it, so the knowledge inside the app is open to everyone on the web, too.

A dedication. This project is built with love, and dedicated to Lauren — its first believer, steadiest supporter, and the reason it keeps growing. 🌙
